Picking out what to wear to church is challenging because there is no specific mode of dressing. And a lot of churches today do not address this issue because the church should be able to accommodate all kinds of people. But accommodating everyone should not make us lose our identity as a group of people that is identified with Christ.
So I decided to share with you 3 (Three) ways to dress to church every Service day.
Dress with respect for GOD
My boss told me a story of how he met with the Manager of a firm that seems to be very difficult to approach due to the protocol of the organization and the Manager's disposition. He said that on the day he met with the manager, he went with is best car, dressed well, intentionally parked the car beside the Manager's car and walked in with his phone to his ear as if he was having an important conversation. He said everyone he met on his way in were respecting him because they do not know who he is. Till date he is a good friend with the 'Almighty' Manager.
If we have appointment with the Governor of our state, we dress to look our best not because we want to impress most of the time but because of the respect we have for such person and the good feeling of being able to identify with such a person.
Likewise, whenever we want to dress for church, let us dress like we are meeting with God and not man. Let us show God 'all' respect so that we can identify with him. And by so doing, we will be favored in His Glorious Presence.
Dress with respect for MAN
The kingdom of God is not just about you alone. It involves those around you. You have not started living until you start to live for others. It is to your disadvantage if a brother/ sister fall away from Christ because of you.
Imagine your mum wearing a leggings and jump top to church. Will you gladly introduce her to people? NO. Because you do not want to be identified with her. So when we are getting dressed, we should remember that we are not only representing ourselves but also our family and friends.
Dress with respect for YOU
There is a saying that ' you are addressed the way you are dressed'. Also, first impression last longer. Everyday we meet new people and we always leave with them an impression of ourselves. Just like the story I shared earlier, imagine my boss dressed shabbily, he would not have been able to gain such an access.
The way we look tell people so much about us and it determines how we are treated. I once attended a party with a younger brother. He dressed in native attire while I simply dressed casual. When we were about to be served, he was treated better than I was treated because he looked more like an invited guest while I looked like an escort (Laugh).
So when next you look at you mirror, ask yourself, 'am I dressed the way I want to be addressed?
Our outward appearance is mostly a reflection of our thought (Inner man). The first place that needs to be dressed is our mind. Learn to renew your mind daily so as not to conform to the pattern of this world (Romans 12:2).
