Sometime last year I got a little confuse about a lot of
things especially my identity in Christ. I sought solutions in churches but
still didn’t find fulfillment. Then a brother-in-the-Lord asked me a question,
“what exactly do you want? Why do you want to change your church?” then he further
said “If you are unable to identify why you want to go to another church, you
will leave again soon.”
I became puzzled because the truth was- I have no idea what
I wanted although I knew something was missing but I just couldn’t lay a finger
on it.
He then told me “what you should seek is Eternal Life”.
At that time I didn’t really know what Eternal Life is (despite
the fact that I have always been a ‘church person’) except that it literarily
means ‘living forever or to be mortal’. So I told myself “if I am seeking
Eternal Life then I must at least recognize it”… and the Holy Spirit stepped in
and thought me what Eternal Life is
all about.

Eternal Life is a light that has appeared to man. In other
words, it brings illumination to the soul of man. As we all know, darkness
naturally give way to light. Sin is darkness and a life that is still in sin does
NOT have Eternal Life yet (1 John 1).
Eternal Life can only be found in The Will of the
Father (God). It is when we do the will of God that we will be able to live forever
(1 John 2:17).
Eternal Life is a Promise from God (1John 2:25). This
promise has been fulfilled already. God in His infinite Love has made us ‘Sons
of God’. There is a witness to that- Holy Spirit. We might not have wings like
the angels; we might not have voice that cause a Lion to shiver but what I know
is that when He appears, we shall look exactly like Him because we will see Him
as He is (1 John 3:1-2).
Eternal Life is Love. Love is the greatest commandment
(Matthew 22:36-40). Love covers a multitude of sins (1 peter 4:8). God is Love;
Love is God; Eternal Life is Love. If you can understand Love, you know Eternal
Life (1 John 4:7-8).
Eternal Life is the Testimony of God to us. Eternal Life is
the word of our Testimony through which we will overcome the devil on earth
(Revelation 12:11). The Testimony states that God has given us Eternal Life
which is in Christ Jesus (1 John 5:11).
We live Eternal Life right here on earth. It is not until we
die. Now I understand better what Paul was saying in Philippians 1:23-24, about
him departing to be with Christ. The first time I read this scripture, I envied
Paul because he was so confident about his heavenly home that he did not mind
dying. A lot of us are afraid to die
because we are not sure where we will meet ourselves on the other side. Now I
know that all Paul did was to do the will of God. Don’t get it twisted, the
Will of God is for us to believe in His Son, Jesus Christ (John 3:16).
