Some years back, I went with my mum to see a family friend
who came visiting from Lagos. The family friend lodged in her brother’s house. As
we approached the house we heard noises from the compound. Obviously,
there was a fight in the house. So we hurriedly entered and found out that it
was the family friend’s brother and his wife that had misunderstanding. The wife
was crying and my mum asked her to calm down and explain why she was upset and she
said “I cannot remember the last time he said he loves me…"
So many marriages are
breaking up today just because we don’t use that word ‘I love you’ often and many young bright destinies have been tampered with
because of the erroneous use of the word ‘I
love you’.
How and when should this word be used? This is a discussion
for another day. But today, we will look at what we mean when we use that word,
‘I Love you’.
What we are simply saying is; I will…
…
be Patient with the differences we share
…
be Kind despite your invidious actions.
…not
envy regardless of who is more successful
…not
boast about achievements, background and
all of that
…not
be proud to say sorry
…not
be rude by keeping that attitude to myself
…not
be self seeking because 1+1=1
…not
be easily angered no matter how annoying you
can be
…not
keep record of wrong… forgive and forget
rule
…not
delight in evil but rejoice with the truth
…protect
you in the waging storm
…always
trusts even if you don’t trust yourself
…always
hope in a hopeless situation
…always
persevere because surulere (Patience is
virtue)
…never fail you
When you say the word ‘I love you’, you are saying all of the
above.
Stay Blessed.
(Holy
Bible, 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8.)
