Closer Than You Think

I had an interesting experience this past week that I would like to share with you. I am a member of a group of young people who work and live to impact those around them positively. I have been a part of this group for about six years. Every year we embark on projects and attend annual competition with other schools in the country.

ENACTUS (Entrepreneurial Action Us) is the best group to belong  as a student, business person or a graduate. Most of the Alumni discovered their potential as a member of this group and they are doing exploit in their various field. Even our Business Advisory Board members find fulfillment and purpose working with us. 

THE STORY

Sometime in November 2008, SIFE (Student in Free Enterprise)[Now ENACTUS] was introduced to University of Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State. Students from various departments were recruited. I cannot forget how I was interviewed, it was the first interview of my life. I messed it all up such that I never believe I would be contacted through a text message congratulating me to the team. 

I met people I would have probably never known if not for SIFE. We worked so hard without sponsor and partners on our beautifully designed projects. I can still remember vividly how the Country Director (Adesua Ifedi) told us to learn to knock on cold doors. Only a handful people believed in us.

Ever since 2009, we have been going for the National Competition. We have worked. Impacted Lives positively the best way we could with the resources we have. We have been making it to the finals of the competition. Never winning. As a result, people left the team on a yearly basis. 

This year, ENACTUS EKSU almost did not want to attend the competition because we rather not make the final just to lose again.

However, we went for the competition to present what we have done, with expectation not as great as before. And We Won...

Just like that. When we least expected to win. 

Lessons I Learn

• Never be afraid to fail because the fear to fail results in the loss of the opportunity to win.

• The Success of a team is not dependent on the personality of its leader rather it depends on the commitment of its team members to the team. 

ENACTUS EKSU will be representing Nigeria in China at the ENACTUS WORLD CUP COMPETITION in October. I believe that if we can see it, we can win it.

It is certainly not time to rest on our oars, we are more motivated that ever by the ENACTUS slogan; Seeing Possibilities. Taking Action. Enabling Progress.
